Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 20, 2026

PureDecode ("we", "our", or "us") is a food-label scanner app that reads ingredient labels and shows allergens, halal & vegan status, an additive safety grade, and blood-sugar (GI) risk. This Privacy Policy explains what information we handle, how we use it, and your choices. We do not require an account, and we never collect your name, email, or precise location.

1. Information We Handle

1a. Photos / Camera

When you scan a label, the selected image is sent to our server for ingredient analysis. We do not store the image as a file. To make repeat scans faster and cheaper, an anonymized hash of the image and the resulting analysis may be cached on our server. The cache cannot be used to reconstruct your photo and is not linked to your identity.

1b. Anonymous Device Identifier

The app generates a random, anonymous device ID (a UUID). It is not linked to your name, email, phone number, or any account. We store this ID on our server together with your monthly scan count, any prepaid scan credits, and your subscription status, solely to enforce free-tier limits and to make purchases work. It is never used for advertising or profiling.

1c. Scan History & Allergen Profile

Your scan history and your saved allergen profile (the allergens you choose to be warned about) are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers.

1d. Settings

Your language, region standard, units, and the Sugar/GI-alert toggle are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted to our servers.

2. How We Use This Information

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond the above.

3. Service Providers

We rely on a small number of processors to run the service. Images and the anonymous records above are handled only to provide the app:

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data, and we do not share it with anyone except the processors above or as required by law.

4. Purchases

Optional subscriptions and top-ups are processed by the platform's own billing — the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Paddle (for the web version). We receive only a purchase token and your subscription status; we never receive or store your card number or billing details.

5. Data Retention

Local data (scan history, allergen profile, settings) stays on your device and is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data. The anonymous server records (device ID, scan counts, cache) are kept only as long as needed to run the service. You can ask us to delete your anonymous server records at any time using the contact below.

6. Children's Privacy

PureDecode is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Not Medical Advice

PureDecode reads the printed label to give you fast guidance. It is not medical advice and can make mistakes. Always double-check the label and consult a qualified professional about allergies or dietary needs.

8. Your Rights

Because we do not hold your name or contact details, most data is on your own device and under your control. You may still contact us to ask about, or request deletion of, the anonymous server records associated with your device ID.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated "Last updated" date.
